Fall 2003 USCT Civil War Conference

UNITED STATES COLORED TROOPS INSTITUTE

Beyond the Call of Duty

Columbia Hilton Hotel, Columbia, Maryland

October 10-11, 2003

July 10, 2003

Dear Sponsors, Patrons, Advertisers and Civil War Enthusiasts

Since the time of the American Revolution, African Americans have volunteered to serve their country in time of war, and have always performed “Beyond the Call of Duty”. The Civil War was no exception. During the American Civil War (1861-1865) more than 200,000 soldiers of African Descent served the Union Army - most with honor, and many with distinction. Seventeen African-American soldiers earned the Congressional Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest award for bravery and courage in combat. The contributions, accomplishments and heroics of these and all African-American servicemen have remained virtually untold and unnoticed – until now, nearly 140 years later.

On October 10-11, 2003, the United States Colored Troops Institute will hold its Fall 2003 Civil War Conference at the Hilton Hotel, in Columbia, Maryland. This event, the third in a series of regional conferences hosted by the Institute, is designed to honor, celebrate and give recognition to our brave Afro-warriors from the Civil War.  Certain to be a most rewarding experience, the symposium will serve to enlighten and inform every audience about the USCT and its formidable role in shaping American history.

A beautifully bound “Beyond the Call of Duty” souvenir booklet will include the conference agenda, biographical profile of each presenter and facilitator, and a profile of sponsor organizations.  We encourage you to not only attend the conference but to consider the purchase of advertisement space in the souvenir booklet for your business products or services; announcements of upcoming events; memorials; etc.  A one-line patron entry will also be available at minimal cost. Additionally, a copy of the booklet will be given to each conferee as well as sponsors, advertisers and patrons.  Registration and advertisement order forms are enclosed for your convenience.

On behalf of The USCT Institute, I look forward to your attendance at the Fall 2003 conference and your advertisement in our Souvenir Booklet. Thank you in advance for your patronage in our souvenir booklet.

Best Regards,
